Salt is a 'silent killer' for the body; know the daily sodium intake.
Spices in the kitchen are responsible for the true flavor and health of food, but excess of anything has adverse health effects.
In today's lifestyle, a growing number of people are fond of spicy and fried foods, and they are unaware that sodium is used extensively in everything from flour to bread. Knowingly or unknowingly, we are consuming excessive amounts of salt, contributing to future illnesses.
Salt, used to enhance flavor, gradually dissolves into the body like a poison and becomes a part of everyday habits. Both Ayurveda and modern science agree that salt is both essential and harmful, but only within limits. Today, we will tell you how much salt acts as a poison for the body and how much salt can be consumed daily.
According to the WHO, consuming 5 grams of salt daily is beneficial. 5 grams is approximately 1 teaspoon. This amount is determined by combining both common salt and hidden sodium in packaged foods. Even people who eat two or three times a day should maintain a balanced diet of 5 grams. In contrast, the Indian lifestyle typically consumes 10-12 grams of salt daily, which is double the recommended daily intake. This is why long-term consumption can lead to high blood pressure, excessive blood thinning, weakening of bones, swelling, increased uric acid levels, excessive kidney strain, dehydration, and premature facial wrinkles.
Now let's learn when and how to use salt. First, avoid using pure white salt. Mix a little rock salt with salt. Second, avoid salt and spices in salads or fruits. This increases the salt intake in the body.
Third, avoid eating salty foods at night, as this can cause swelling in the face in the morning. Fourth, avoid using white salt in yogurt or lassi. Instead, consume it with a small amount of salt and cumin. People who have cough problem should reduce the intake of curd and salt.
