India's Monsoon Revives, Set to Ease Heatwave Soon by Amit Gupta , Kedia Advisory

India’s crucial monsoon season has regained momentum after a two-week stall, with rains now extending across central India. Officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that rainfall is progressing into Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh, and is expected to cover most of the country by June-end. The revival, driven by a favourable weather system in the Bay of Bengal, is expected to ease severe heatwave conditions and support crop sowing in northern plains. While rainfall was 31% below average in early June, above-average precipitation is forecast for the remainder of the month, boosting farm prospects and water reservoirs.

Key Highlights

# Monsoon resumes after stalling since May 29.

# Central India sees expanding rainfall coverage this week.

# Bay of Bengal system triggers rain revival.

# Heatwave to ease significantly over the next 10 days.

# Second half of June likely to witness above-average rain.

India's monsoon, the lifeline of its $4 trillion economy, has finally revived after halting for over two weeks, triggering a much-needed relief in the heat-stricken northern and central regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that monsoon rains have now swept through most of Maharashtra and started entering Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, marking a turning point in the weather pattern.

Grain-producing northern states, battling extreme heatwaves, are expected to get some relief in the coming days as monsoon showers intensify. This weather turnaround is driven by a developing low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal, which is now helping rains to gain strength and expand rapidly.

Despite a slow start—with early June witnessing 31% below-average rainfall—weather officials now forecast an above-average spell for the second half of the month. The monsoon’s progress was initially ahead of schedule, reaching Kerala on May 24, but it stalled after May 29. However, the current revival indicates a swift spread across most of India before the end of June.

This progress is crucial, as nearly 50% of India’s farmland lacks irrigation and depends heavily on June-September rains to grow key crops like rice, soybeans, sugarcane, cotton, and corn. With sowing season peaking, the rainfall revival will not only ease temperature stress but also boost agricultural activity and reservoir levels.

Finally

The timely monsoon revival brings hope for farmers and markets alike, potentially stabilizing crop output, easing inflation, and cooling India’s scorching summer temperatures.
