Rupee weakens against US dollar on Tuesday

The Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Tuesday due to foreign fund outflows from the Indian capital market. Foreign institutional investors offloaded equities worth Rs 525.95 crore on a net basis on Monday, exchange data showed. Moreover, weak domestic equities also dampened sentiments. However, a weaker American currency amid concerns about a US tax bill and the US debt load following Moody's downgrade of the US sovereign credit rating late Friday, has limited further downside in rupee.
The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 85.45, weaker by 3 paise from its previous close of 85.42 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 85.55 and 85.39 respectively.
