Rupee strengthens against US dollar on Friday
Indian rupee strengthened marginally against the US dollar on Friday due to the RBI’s intervention in the market. However, elevated crude oil prices, foreign fund outflows and potential US trade tariffs by US President-elect Donald Trump have weighed on the rupee sentiment in the near term and limited further gains. Foreign institutional investors offloaded equities worth Rs 4,341.95 crore on Thursday, exchange data showed.
The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 86.59, stronger by 2 paise from its previous close of 86.61 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 86.60 and 86.5550 respectively.
