Rupee weakens against US dollar in early trade on Wednesday
The Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar in early trade on Wednesday, tracking outflow of foreign funds, a strong American currency overseas, and ahead of the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision later today where the Fed is expected to deliver its first rate hike in around three years. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 2,977.86 crore on a net basis on Tuesday, exchange data showed. However, positive domestic equity markets, RBI’s intervention and easing Brent oil prices helped limit further losses.
The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 95.92, weaker by 4 paise from its previous close of 95.88 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 95.9350 and 95.85 respectively.
