Netanyahu plans to double population in Golan Heights; announces $11 Mn initiative to boost growth
As President Al-Assad’s ‘Iron Fist’ rule ended in Syria, the recent developments in the country remain a focal point for all other nations. In a recent development, Netanyahu announced to double Israel’s population in the Golan Heights, a region captured from Syria in the 1967 war. Israeli cabinet unanimously approved PM Netanyahu’s plan, which aims to double the settler population in Golan Heights, Times of Israel reported. Around 50,000 people live on the Israeli-controlled side of the heights, evenly split between Jews and Druze. Netanyahu’s office announced an $11 million plan to boost growth in the area, citing security concerns due to Syria’s instability. The money will go toward education, renewable energy, the establishment of a student village and a plan for absorbing new residents. Hence Israeli troops continued operations in the UN-monitored buffer zone between Syria and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights
