Nepal's Gandaki Assembly approves bill to legalise marijuana farming for medicinal use

Nepal's Gandaki Province Assembly has unanimously passed a bill legalising the cultivation of marijuana for medicinal and industrial purposes, establishing a regulated framework for commercial farming and production. The legislation, introduced by State Minister for Industry and Tourism Yasodha Rimal, received unanimous approval after parliamentary review and amendments. Under the new law, cultivation will be allowed only in government-designated areas with prior approval and strict provincial supervision. The bill also mandates that cultivated marijuana contain less than three percent tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the plant's primary psychoactive compound. Provincial authorities say the measure aims to promote medicinal and industrial applications while ensuring tight regulatory oversight and preventing misuse through a controlled licensing and monitoring system.
