Global News
• US tech stocks tumble as AI infrastructure concerns trigger a $2.5 trillion market wipeout, pushing Nasdaq into correction territory: US technology stocks witnessed a sharp selloff, with the Nasdaq Composite plunging 5.5% in its steepest single-day decline since April 2025, while the Nasdaq 100 slumped 6.4%, wiping out nearly $2.5 trillion in market value. The selloff was triggered by concerns that the Democrats' sweeping US midterm election victory could lead to greater regulatory scrutiny, local opposition and delays in AI data centre construction, particularly due to rising power and water requirements. Semiconductor and AI infrastructure stocks bore the brunt, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index falling 12%, Nvidia declining 9% and AMD plunging 17%, while data centre operators and neocloud companies such as Nebius and CoreWeave dropped 15% and 10%, respectively. Concerns over higher borrowing costs, funding constraints and uncertain returns on massive AI investments further intensified the selloff, pushing the Nasdaq nearly 12% below its October 6 record high and into correction territory.

Global Debt Market:
U.S. Treasury yields moved broadly lower across the curve on Thursday, as investors digested the midterm election results and looked ahead to employment data due later in the session. The yield on the 2-year Treasury note was flat at 4.581%, while the 30-year Treasury yield fell 3 basis points to trade at 5.245%. Investors are still assessing the outcome of the U.S. midterm elections, which saw the Democrats win control of Congress. The so-called blue wave has raised questions around policy for the remainder of President Donald Trump’s term, with oil prices falling on expectations that Iran war escalation has become less likely. Treasury yields moved sharply lower in the wake of the result, with the 10-year yield ending the session 6 basis points lower on Wednesday. Surging oil prices have put pressure on global government bonds this year, as energy supply constraints in the Middle East raise concerns about a resurgence of inflation and a hawkish turn among central banks. Traders are also awaiting weekly jobless claims data, due to be published at 8:30 a.m. ET. October’s nonfarm payrolls report is due on Friday
