Gross GST revenue rises 6.5% to Rs 1.86 lakh core in August

The government data has showed that gross goods and services tax (GST) collection rose 6.5 per cent year-on-year to Rs 1,86,315 crore in August 2025 with increased domestic sales, and the upcoming festive season is likely to swell the kitty going forward. In August 2024, the collection was Rs 1,74,962 crore. 

The total gross GST revenue for August 2025 comprised Central GST (CGST) of Rs 34,076 crore, State GST (SGST) of Rs 42,854 crore, Integrated GST (IGST) of Rs 97,186 crore (including Rs 48,546 crore collected on imports) and Compensation Cess of Rs 12,199 crore (including Rs 807 crore collected on imports).

However, the August gross GST mop-up is lower than Rs 1.96 lakh crore collected in July. Net GST revenue stood at Rs 1.67 lakh crore in August 2025, recording 10.7 per cent year-on-year growth. The gross domestic revenue grew 9.6 per cent to Rs 1.37 lakh crore, while tax from imports dipped 1.2 per cent to Rs 49,354 crore in August. GST refunds were down 20 per cent year-on-year to Rs 19,359 crore.
