Indian equities briefly touched uncharted territory today, with the Sensex crossing 86,000 and the Nifty surging past 26,300 for the first time before profit-taking dragged both indices off their highs. By the close, the Nifty was down over 50 points and the Sensex slipped around 110 points, but the breakout above long-held resistance still marks a decisive end to the 13-month corrective phase.

This move confirms the market’s entry into a new bull cycle. With both global and domestic interest rates expected to fall more sharply than earlier anticipated, we foresee a supportive liquidity environment, a bond rally and a gradually strengthening rupee. In this backdrop, investors should position portfolios for a falling rate cycle adding duration in government bonds and increasing exposure to rate-sensitives such as banks, NBFCs and real estate, while paring USD-heavy positions and near-term defensives. The broad-based strength across Nifty 500 names further reinforces our view that staying aligned with the trend will be rewarding over the next two years
