Gujarat University students convert plastic bottles into durable construction materials
Students from Veer Narmad South Gujarat University devised a solution to repurpose discarded water bottles strewn around the city streets on March 27. Collaborating with their professor, they ground the bottles into fine pieces and mixed them with cement to create durable plates for government projects. Recognized by the Central Government's NIT institute, this initiative aims to curb plastic pollution by converting waste into useful materials, with plans for expansion nationwide and training programs in other educational institutions. Talking to ANI, HOD of physics, Dr I. B. Patel said, “We thought about the burning issue of plastic decomposition and how to do it. Because if you try to decompose plastic lots of toxic gases emit which is harmful for the environment. Plastic water bottles take almost 400 years to get decomposed. We gathered all the plastic bottles from campus and then we crushed them. We made the block by crushing plastic and mixing it with cement.”
