Daily Market Update - 30th July 2026 by Ventura Securities Ltd
Market Outlook:
Indian equity markets are expected to open on a cautious note, with Gift Nifty declining 0.14% (around 34 points) following a weak overnight performance across US markets. The S&P 500 fell 1.51%, the Dow Jones declined 2.18%, and the Nasdaq dropped 2.06%, reflecting heightened global risk aversion. Despite the weak global backdrop, domestic market breadth remained encouraging, with the NSE advance-decline ratio at 2,129:1,181 and the BSE ratio at 2,533:1,705, indicating broad-based participation across the market. Investors are likely to remain focused on the ongoing earnings season, global developments, and institutional activity for further market direction.
FII and DII Activity:
Institutional flows remained mixed during the previous trading session. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers, recording net outflows of approximately Rs 2,982 crore, reflecting continued caution amid global uncertainties. Meanwhile, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) remained net buyers with inflows of nearly Rs 998 crore, providing partial support to the broader market. While foreign selling persists, sustained domestic participation continues to cushion downside risks and reinforce confidence in Indian equities.
Sector Activity:
Sectoral performance remained broadly positive despite weakness in the automobile space. Nifty IT and Nifty Metals emerged as the top-performing sectors, each advancing 2.32%, led by strong gains in Infosys (+4.32%) and NALCO (+3.42%), respectively. Nifty Pharma rose 1.44%, supported by Divi's Laboratories (+5.25%), while Nifty Consumer Durables gained 1.43% on the back of Crompton Greaves (+7.11%). Nifty Private Bank also advanced 1.03%, driven by Bandhan Bank (+2.70%). In contrast, Nifty Auto declined 2.17%, weighed down by weakness in Mahindra & Mahindra (-1.32%), reflecting sector-specific profit booking.
Long, Short, Long Unwinding & Short Covering:
Derivative positioning indicates a cautious but stable outlook. The Nifty Put-Call Ratio (PCR) stood at 0.834, while the Bank Nifty PCR was 0.829, suggesting balanced positioning with a mildly cautious bias. Maximum Call and Put Open Interest for Nifty remained concentrated at the 24,200 strike, indicating an important support and resistance zone. Similarly, Bank Nifty witnessed maximum Call and Put Open Interest at the 58,000 strike, pointing towards expectations of range-bound movement in the near term. There were no securities under the F&O ban list, indicating normal participation across the derivatives market.
Top 5 News Highlights:
Infosys surged 4.32%, leading gains in the IT sector and helping the index outperform.
Divi's Laboratories rallied 5.25%, driving strength in the Pharma index.
Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals jumped 7.11%, boosting the Consumer Durables sector.
NALCO gained 3.42%, supporting the rally in Metal stocks amid improving commodity sentiment.
Mahindra & Mahindra declined 1.32%, dragging the Auto index lower despite broader market strength.
Overall, while weak global cues may keep near-term sentiment subdued, healthy domestic market breadth, continued DII support, and strength across IT, Metals, Pharma, and Consumer Durables provide resilience to Indian equities. Investors should remain selective, monitor quarterly earnings, and track institutional flows and global developments for clearer market direction.
