5.15-km Guirim-Porvorim Elevated Corridor Inaugurated by Nitin Gadkari, Marking Major Boost to Goa`s Road Infrastructure

The 5.15-km Guirim–Porvorim Elevated Corridor on NH-66 was inaugurated late Wednesday evening, by Hon’ble Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Jairam Gadkari, marking a major milestone in Goa’s road infrastructure and the culmination of a long-standing vision for transforming mobility in Porvorim. The inauguration was held in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri Shripad Naik, Hon’ble Minister for Public Works, Captain of Ports and Legal Metrology, Shri Digambar Kamat, and Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, IT & Porvorim MLA, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, along with other dignitaries and senior officials.

Speaking at the inauguration, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, IT & Porvorim MLA Shri Rohan A. Khaunte said the corridor represented the fulfilment of a vision that began in 2012, when the growing traffic pressure and rapid development of Porvorim highlighted the need for a long-term infrastructure solution. He said the project was conceived as a long-term investment in the constituency, aimed at improving mobility and creating safer and more efficient movement for residents, businesses, tourists and commercial traffic. The project also underlines the importance of investing in infrastructure that keeps pace with Goa’s evolving tourism economy.

“When we talk about tourism, we often talk about destinations. But destinations can only grow when the infrastructure connecting them keeps pace. Better roads, better mobility and reliable connectivity are essential to Goa’s tourism and economic future. The Porvorim corridor strengthens that foundation,” Shri Rohan A. Khaunte said.

The elevated corridor is also an important intervention in the planned growth of Porvorim, which has developed into one of Goa’s key urban centres, with increasing residential, commercial and institutional activity. For residents of Porvorim and surrounding areas, the project is expected to bring a substantial improvement in everyday travel by reducing congestion and making movement along the corridor faster and more predictable.

“The people of Porvorim have shown tremendous patience throughout this journey. They endured the inconvenience because they understood that we were building something for the future. Today, the credit belongs to them as much as it belongs to the engineers, workers, officials and everyone who worked on the project,” Shri Khaunte said.

He expressed his gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and Hon’ble Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Jairam Gadkari for their support towards the project and for strengthening road infrastructure in Goa.

Shri Khaunte also acknowledged the support of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa Dr. Pramod Sawant, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shri Shripad Naik, Hon’ble Minister for Public Works, Captain of Ports and Legal Metrology Shri Digambar Kamat, and all public representatives, government officials, engineers, technical teams and workers involved in delivering the project.

With the completion of the Guirim–Porvorim Elevated Corridor, Porvorim takes an important step towards addressing its evolving mobility needs and supporting its continued growth as a major urban and economic centre in Goa.

“For me, this project is not the end of a journey. It is the beginning of a new chapter for Porvorim. We have shown that when we plan for the future and work together with determination, we can deliver infrastructure that changes the way people live, work and travel. This is Porvorim moving forward,” Shri Khaunte said.
