*  UK Christmas spending rises despite weak festive demand and cautious consumers: Britons are expected to spend £24.6 billion on Christmas this year, up 3.5% from 2024, even as festive trading began slowly, according to PwC. Average per-adult spending is seen rising to £461, mainly on food, drink, Christmas meals, and health and beauty. However, with inflation at 3.6%, real volumes remain flat. Many consumers planning to cut back cited the rising cost of living, while spending in November stayed muted ahead of the budget, with Barclays card data showing a 1.1% decline and BRC reporting its slowest retail growth since May. A mild autumn dampened fashion sales, especially coats and boots. PwC expects spending to improve once post-budget financial clarity returns, even as it recently predicted the sharpest drop in U.S. holiday spending since the pandemic.
