Economic News
* India's factory growth hits 14-month high on robust exports and record hiring: India’s manufacturing activity hit a 14-month high in June, with the HSBC Manufacturing PMI rising to 58.4 from 57.6 in May, driven by strong domestic and international demand, especially from the U.S. This surge boosted output, new orders, and led to record-high hiring since the survey’s inception in 2005. Export orders saw the third-fastest growth on record. Despite rising prices for iron and steel, overall input cost inflation eased, while selling prices rose at a slower pace. However, business confidence slightly dipped due to concerns over competition, inflation, and changing consumer preferences.
Global News
* U.S. Senate passes Trump’s tax-spending bill, slashing welfare and adding $3.3T to debt: The U.S. Senate narrowly passed President Trump’s sweeping tax and spending bill, aiming for final House approval by July 4. The legislation extends 2017 tax cuts, boosts military and immigration enforcement spending, and slashes nearly $930 billion from Medicaid and food aid, while adding $3.3 trillion to the national debt. Despite internal Republican divisions, it passed 51-50 with Vice President JD Vance breaking the tie. The bill faces stiff resistance in the House over its cost, Medicaid cuts, and lack of tax relief for high-tax states. Critics warn it could leave 12 million more uninsured and deepen inequality
