Indian benchmark indices are expected to open on a flat to slightly negative note today, as indicated by the GIFT Nifty, which suggests a marginal decline of just 1 point in the Nifty 50. Market sentiment remains mildly indecisive, following a cautious close in the previous session.
The Nifty index experienced selling pressure from the beginning but found support near the crucial 25,000 level, triggering a mild intraday recovery. It ultimately closed below 25,100, forming a bearish candlestick with a lower wick, reflecting persistent selling pressure with some buying interest at lower levels. The 25,000 mark now serves as a critical support—if breached, it could lead to further downside toward 24,700. On the upside, immediate resistance lies at 25,200, with a strong hurdle between 25,378 and 25,500. A breakout above this zone is needed to re-establish bullish momentum.
The Bank Nifty ended almost unchanged, gaining just 10.65 points, and formed a Doji candlestick on the daily chart. This pattern indicates market indecision and suggests a potential pause or reversal in trend following recent volatility. Immediate support is seen at 56,500, with a breakdown possibly dragging the index down to 56,000. On the upside, resistance lies at 57,000, with a significant barrier between 57,300–57,500. A clear breakout above this zone is essential for a shift toward a bullish stance in the near term.
From a fund flow perspective, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued their selling spree for the second consecutive day on July 14, offloading equities worth ?1,614 crore. In contrast, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) extended their buying streak for the sixth day, purchasing equities worth ?1,787 crore.
In the current environment of elevated volatility and mixed cues, traders are advised to maintain a cautious "buy-on-dips" approach, especially when using leverage. Booking partial profits during upswings and placing tight trailing stop-losses will help manage risk effectively. Fresh long positions should only be considered if Nifty sustains above the 25,378 mark. While the broader sentiment remains cautiously bullish, it is important to monitor key technical levels and global developments closely.
