Market Closing Commentary

Indian benchmark indices ended lower on February 27, with the Nifty breaching the 25,200 marks amid broad-based selling across sectors, except IT and media. After a muted start, the market remained under persistent pressure throughout the session, dragged down by weak global cues and heightened geopolitical tensions that kept investor sentiment cautious.

At the close, the Sensex fell 961.42 points, or 1.17 per cent, to 81,287.19, while the Nifty declined 317.90 points, or 1.25 percent, to settle at 25,178.65. In the broader market space, the Nifty Midcap and Small cap indices also slipped around 1 percent each. On a weekly basis, both the BSE Sensex and the Nifty registered losses of 1.5 percent each. Sector-wise, auto, banking, FMCG, metal, and realty stocks dropped 1–2 percent, whereas IT, media, and consumer durables stocks ended the session in positive territory.

Nifty Outlook

The index has formed a sizable bearish candle with a lower high and a lower low signaling corrective bias. Nifty breached the lower band of the last 10 sessions range ( 25,900-25350) on Friday’s session and witnessed a sharp decline on expected lines to almost test the 25,100 levels. Volatility is likely to remain elevated amid uncertain global cues. On the higher side Friday’s breakdown area of 25,400 is likely to act as immediate resistance. Bias remains down below the same.

Bank Nifty Outlook

Bank Nifty formed a bearish candle with a lower high and a lower low signaling profit booking at higher levels. Immediate support is seen at 60,200-60,000 levels being the confluence of the 50 days EMA and the key retracement of the previous up move. Volatility is likely to remain elevated amid uncertain global cues. In the near-term index is likely to trade in the range of 60,000-61,750. A decisive move beyond this range could trigger fresh directional momentum.
