Madhya Pradesh: `Jalabhishek`performed at Ujjain`s Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple
‘Jalabhishek’ from the water of 11 rivers was done at the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga on April 24.
As per tradition in Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple, from 24th April (Vaishakh Krishna Pratipada) to 22nd June (Jyeshtha Shukla Purnima), Galantika will be tied on Lord Mahakal for continuous flow of water from 11 earthen pots. The names of rivers like Ganga, Sindhu, Saraswati, Yamuna, Godavari, Narmada, Kaveri, Sharayu, Shipra, Gandaki etc. are inscribed on the Kalash in a symbolic form. Galantika is filled with the water of Koti Tirtha. The water of Koti Tirtha contains the water of 1000 rivers.
