India`s first underground railway station to be completed in Sikkim
In a groundbreaking move, the Indian railways is building an underground railway station in Teesta Bazaar, West Bengal, aiming to enhance connectivity between West Bengal and Sikkim. This initiative marks the introduction of railways in the state of Sikkim, with the project anticipated to be completed by 2024.
The construction is poised to not only strengthen transportation links but also contribute to the growth of tourism in Sikkim. The platform beneath the tunnel spans 620 meters, while the entire tunnel measures 650 meters. Adequate provisions for passenger ventilation have been incorporated, and an additional tunnel has been constructed for emergency situations.
