19 iconic Assam items including Bihu Dhol, Sarthebari Metal Craft earn GI tags

As many as 19 traditional products and crafts of Assam received a Geographical Indication tag on March 31. These crafts include the Bihu Dhol, Jaapi, Sarthebari Metal Craft, Pani Mateka Craft, and several items of the Bodo community.
“I heard yesterday that the Government has given a GI tag to Bihu Dhol. We are very happy...,” said local artisan Rotish Biswas.
“The government has taken a good step... We are thankful...,” said local artisan Nabajit Deka.
