Lauding its bilateral ties with India, Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen on January 06 said that the relations between the two countries is built on a very strong foundation starting from 1971 and the sacrifices of Indian soldiers. Speaking to ANI, he said, “The India-Bangladesh relationship is built on a very strong foundation starting from 1971 and the sacrifices of Indian soldiers. Over the years these relations have moved from strength to strength. Recently at so many levels, our relationship has blossomed. One thing I would like to see is more progress in connectivity and joint projects with mutual economic benefits. Some of the foundations have been laid. Therefore, with good results in the upcoming elections both in Bangladesh and, subsequently in India, these various connectivity-related projects will further be strengthened. The economic relationship, between the two countries, has also flourished in recent times in terms of higher volumes of freight from both sides. So we would like to fully utilize the potential of the complementarities of the two economies. We are building this Matarbari Port support with the help of the Japanese. So this could open up new possibilities not only for northeast Indian states but also for Bhutan and Nepal who are also landlocked.”
