Government mulls giving Telangana's Adilabad an airport as India works to build 100 airports under UDAN
At a press conference, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu says, "... The government is considering the construction of a new airport in the Adilabad region of Telangana, which is often described as the gateway to the state. With a large tribal population and aspirations to become an industrial hub, Adilabad has long sought an airport, as the only major facility in Telangana is Hyderabad’s Shamshabad airport, built nearly 25 years ago. The discussions are underway with the Ministry of Defence, which already holds an old airstrip and 370 acres of land in the area. This aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision for Viksit Bharat 2047, which aims to expand India’s airports from the current 165 to 350, focusing on tier?2 and tier?3 cities..."
