Aviation Sector Update - Average daily traffic count crosses 100k By ICICI Securities
Weekly average daily fliers came in at 103k in the week ended (W.E) 19 th Jun’21 vs 83k in the W.E. 12th Jun’21. For the W.E. 19 th Jun’21, average number of departures increased sharply to 1,195 vis-à-vis 1,003 in the prior week. The number of fliers per departure increased marginally to 86 in the W.E 19th Jun’21 vs 83 in the prior week.
Average daily fliers grew 23.7% WoW due to 19.2% growth in departures and 4% growth in number of fliers per departure.
As per data release from DGCA, PLFs declined sequentially in May’21. SpiceJet reported highest PLF compared to other airlines. In terms of market share, Air India reported sharp jump in its market share in May’21 (20.3% in May’21 vs 12% in Apr’21), while Indigo’s market share improved marginally to 55.3% (up 140bps MoM). All other major airlines reported a decline in their market share (refer table 1 below).
