Chennai homebuyers have shown a marked shift in focus towards leading a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, post pandemic, with 86% of the Chennai population considering health, safety, and wellbeing as a priority. The study conducted by Godrej Properties also brought to the fore that 73% of Chennai homebuyers are highly conscious of energy conservation, wastage minimization, and are keen on leading a sustainable lifestyle.

Home Livability Factors underscores the fundamental shift in homebuyers’ preferences with the onset of the pandemic and the significant alterations that it has brought about in their preference for residential apartments.

As per the study, the pandemic has also altered the preferences of spaces, both inside and outside homes. 81% of Chennai homebuyers find it necessary to be surrounded by open spaces and greenery in and around their homes.

Pramod Bisht, CEO South Zone, Godrej Properties, said, “Homebuyers today are going beyond the basic checklist. They are on the lookout for very specific, custom-designed, smart homes which are not only technologically evolved but offer contemporary facilities in terms of safety, security and more. Increasing inclination of home buyers for health and wellbeing has led to a strong preference for an open and safe living environment.”

The study found that 71% of the respondents from Chennai have acclimatized to work-from-home and have designed their homes to support remote working. It further revealed that 67% of the Chennai homebuyers deem it fundamentally important for their home to be a place where hobbies can be developed.

Data findings are a part of research study Home Livability Factors unveiled by Godrej Properties Ltd. (GPL) which surveyed respondents from seven cities of Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, and Chennai.
