On India–Guyana relations, formally established nearly 60 years ago, are rooted in strong people-to-people ties dating back to 1964, driven by Guyana’s large population of Indian origin. Bilateral engagement has intensified in recent years, with frequent high-level visits and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors. Trade with India is significant for Guyana’s small economy, with bilateral trade touching USD 500–600 million, despite appearing modest in global terms. Guyana has recently recorded a positive trade balance with India, reversing earlier trends dominated by pharmaceutical imports.
