Here are some of the best cars priced below Rs. 8 lakh that you should take a closer look at. This price segment does offer quite a few choices.

Looking to purchase a new car today itself and you are on a budget? It does not mean that you will have to essentially compromise with the design, safety and other features. Carmakers have started understanding the needs of contemporary customer and most car models have greater value for money on offer as well. Every buyer has a varying budget and functionality in mind and Rs. 8 lakh may get options ranging from hatchbacks and sedans to SUVs as well. Here is the list.

1. Tata Nexon

The Tata Nexon is a cool choice in the sub-compact SUV category and offers several features, a punchy engine and higher driving position in tandem with competitive pricing. The SUV is priced on the lower side and is highly affordable in comparison to many other SUVs in this category. The Nexon XT petrol is a good option with all essential features.

 

2. Maruti Suzuki Swift

The new generation Swift from Maruti Suzuki was unveiled sometime earlier and it is priced in the sweet spot for those desiring a reliable and premium hatchback in India. It is one of the best cars to buy under Rs. 8 lakh and gets a highly refreshing exterior along with a premium new interior theme and several features. It is a value for money package and comes with 1.2 litre petrol and 1.3 litre diesel engines which offer 22 kmpl and 28.4 kmpl respectively in terms of mileage.

 

3. Hyundai Grand i10 Facelift

A rival for the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, the Hyundai Grand i10 facelift was recently launched and comes with quite a few revisions and cosmetic upgrades alike. The Grand i10 always had good features with the top-end models offering a reverse parking camera, 1 GB of storage for your music and even a 7 inch touch screen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with LED DRLs and a 1.2 litre diesel mill that is more powerful than the previously used 1.1 litre engine. The cabin is spacious and mileage figures stand at 19.77 kmpl and 24.95 kmpl for the petrol and diesel versions respectively.

 

4. Maruti Suzuki Ignis:

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is a hugely popular car now and is known for its youthful yet radical looks and its attempt to target influencers and younger buyers. The Ignis is quirky and is packed with features as well. There is the reliable 1.2 litre petrol mill with AMT and a 5-speed manual transmission unit as well. The interiors are plush as well. The Ignis offers 20.89 kmpl as mileage for the petrol-AMT model with a reasonable starting price as well. The diesel model is not available anymore.

 

5. Tata Tiago

The Tata Tiago was a huge success for Tata Motors, being the first car to use the new Impact Design template. The Tiago is priced right and is a value for money proposition within Rs. 8 lakh. It offers compact dimensions, a stylish design, plush interiors and the AMT option for the petrol variant. The top-end model could be considered in this price range for additions like premier fabric interiors, alloy wheels and the multi-functional steering wheel among others. There are 1.2 litre petrol and 1.05 litre diesel engines on offer.

 

6. Hyundai i20 Facelift

The hugely acclaimed Hyundai i20 got its facelift sometime earlier and the new-generation model has now launched in the country. It gets a stylish and trendy design language along with bucket loads of features, spacious interiors, a new grille, LED DRLs, connectivity features and a lot more. Priced at a slight premium over the earlier model, the new Hyundai i20 is definitely worth a lot more than you think it is.

 

7. Ford Freestyle

Ford Freestyle is the first crossover model from Ford India and is based on the popular Figo. It is priced reasonably with good looks and several features including the touch screen infotainment unit, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and SYNC3 connectivity suite among others. There are dual airbags along with a reverse parking system, ABS and 1.2 litre petrol engine. There is also a 1.5 litre diesel engine which is paired to a 5-speed transmission system.

 

8. Honda Amaze

The Honda Amaze has received its upgrade and is a brand new offering now, using a new platform and sporting a whole new look which makes it more attractive for buyers in this price segment. You will get some variants available in this price band and the Amaze makes it worth it, with its styling, nice chunky headlights, CVT automatic choices for diesel and petrol cars and 1.2 litre petrol and 1.5 litre diesel engines. Mileage figures stand at 19.5 kmpl (MT) and 19 kmpl (CVT) for the petrol mill while they stand at 27.4 kmpl and 23.8 kmpl respectively for the diesel versions.

 

9. Maruti Suzuki Dzire:

The new generation Dzire has become a hot property in the Indian market and is lighter by 100 kg as compared to the previous version. The HEARTEC design platform is used for the new Dzire and it offers several premier features, plush interiors, ample cabin space and a stylish new look. There are several standard safety features and you will get several variants within the Rs. 8 lakh price point. The 1.2 litre and 1.3 litre diesel engines come with 5-speed manual and AMT options as well. Fuel economy is also excellent, hovering between 22-28 kmpl on an average.

You may also find the base variants of the Maruti Suzuki VitaraBrezza, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Ford EcoSport in this price band although they will not make for the best value for money.
