“Benchmark indices ended Monday’s session in negative territory, weighed down by weakness in information technology stocks and cautious global sentiment. The S&P BSE Sensex slipped 173.77 points to settle at 82,327.05, while the NSE Nifty50 declined 58 points to 25,227.35.

IT majors led the decline, with Infosys falling nearly 2%, followed by losses in Wipro, Tata Motors, Nestlé, and Hindustan Unilever. Selling pressure was also seen across metal, telecom, FMCG, and capital goods counters, all slipping between 0.5% and 1%. Broader markets mirrored the trend — the BSE Midcap index fell 0.2%, and the Smallcap index shed 0.4%.

On the other hand, select heavyweights such as Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Auto, Adani Ports, Shriram Finance, and Bajaj Finance provided some support.

Investor sentiment remained cautious amid renewed concerns over US–China tariff tensions, following comments from former US President Donald Trump that reignited trade war fears. Meanwhile, domestic data showed some easing in prices — food inflation fell to -2.28% in September from -0.69% a month earlier, while rural inflation moderated to 1.07% and urban inflation to 2.04%.”
