PL Capital Mid & Small Cap Conference highlights emerging growth opportunities across technology, energy transition, manufacturing and space
Conference brings together nearly 50 companies and hundreds of money managers to discuss India’s next generation of growth leaders
PL Capital recently hosted Mid & Small Cap Conference 2026 on September 28–29, bringing together nearly 50 companies, industry veterans and hundreds of money managers to discuss emerging opportunities and the businesses that could shape India’s next phase of growth.
Themed “Emerging Titans: Unlocking India’s Next Growth Leaders” the conference highlighted the breadth of opportunities emerging across India, with discussions spanning technology, consumer businesses, manufacturing, exports, energy transition and space technology. The conference report noted that India’s long-term growth opportunity is increasingly being supported by businesses that are investing, innovating and scaling into emerging leaders.
Technology emerged as a key theme with discussions highlighting the role of digital platforms, artificial intelligence and data infrastructure in creating new avenues for growth. The conference highlighted how technology-led businesses are increasingly using data and AI to build new use cases, improve productivity and expand into adjacent financial and consumer services.
The conference also highlighted India’s energy transition as a significant long-term opportunity. Discussions pointed to a sharp increase in installed power capacity over the coming decade, alongside a rising share of non-fossil capacity. This is expected to create investment opportunities across renewable energy, energy storage, transmission and grid infrastructure.
Manufacturing and exports were another important area of discussion. The conference report highlighted that while India’s merchandise exports have expanded, a significant portion of the export basket continues to comprise traditional products, with relatively low value addition in several areas. Increasing manufacturing capabilities and moving beyond assembly could help Indian businesses improve their participation in global supply chains.
The space economy was identified as another emerging growth area. The conference highlighted the expansion of India’s private space ecosystem, with opportunities spanning launch services, satellite manufacturing, ground infrastructure, downstream applications and the emerging in-orbit economy. The report noted that India’s space economy is targeted to reach around US$44 billion by 2033, with downstream applications expected to account for a significant share of the opportunity.
The conference also highlighted changing consumer behaviour as an important growth driver. Discussions pointed to India’s large and young consumer base, rising aspirations and evolving preferences, creating opportunities across consumer goods, electronics, healthcare, nutrition, personal care and financial products. The changing role of e-commerce, quick commerce and evolving brand preferences were also highlighted.
Amnish Aggarwal, Co- Head of Research – Institutional Equities, PL Capital, said: “The discussions at the Mid & Small Cap Conference highlighted the breadth of opportunities emerging across India’s growth landscape. From technology and digital platforms to energy transition, manufacturing, exports and space, several structural themes are creating new avenues for businesses to invest, innovate and scale. At the same time, the discussions reinforced the importance of building competitive capabilities, improving value addition and responding to changing consumer and technological trends. The diversity of businesses and perspectives at the conference provided useful insights into the emerging companies and sectors that are participating in India’s evolving growth story.”
The conference report noted that while India offers a large and young consumer base and is emerging as an alternative supplier to the world, technological advancement and manufacturing competitiveness will remain important factors in determining the ability of Indian businesses to capture these opportunities.
