“Markets finish flat as Nifty stays above 25,200; earnings season, global cues keep traders on edge
On Wednesday, equity benchmarks ended on a muted note amid cautious trading, with investor focus split between Indian Q1 earnings and global macro signals. The Nifty 50 held firm above the 25,200 level, while the Sensex rose by around 63 points.
Top Nifty performers:
* M&M jumped over 2%, taking the lead, along with support from Wipro, SBI, Nestle India, and Tech Mahindra.
*Shriram Finance dropped 2%, dragging down the laggards list, which also included Sun Pharma, Tata Motors, and Tata Steel.
Broader market action:
* BSE Midcap & Smallcap indices closed with mild gains.
* Sector moves: metals were down ~0.5%, whereas realty, auto, FMCG, IT, PSU banks, and media saw upticks of 0.5–1.2%.
Key triggers:
* A surprise rise in US inflation tempered expectations of a near?term Fed rate cut.
* Trade tensions and tariff concerns added to global uncertainty.
Outlook:
With more earnings releases due and global data ahead, markets may remain range-bound. Investors are likely to lean toward stock-specific picks in this setup.”
