Legislative Assembly Elections began in the north-eastern state of Mizoram today. The state witnessed a nice voter turnout, commenting on which the Chief Electoral Officer of Mizoram said that the state Election Commission aims to record the highest voter turnout this time. “Voting started at the designated time at all the polling stations. During mock polls, there were reports about the malfunctioning of some EMVs and they were promptly replaced. The huge number of voters coming to vote is a testimony to the strong public support we have been able to gather. We had prepared the district-wise turnout implementation plan. We had involved the community, and social organisations, prominently the Mizoram People’s Forum and other social organisations. We targeted the youth, so we are happy to witness a huge turnout. We are targeting to break the voting percentage record,” said Chief Electoral Officer of Mizoram Pu Madhup Vyas.
