In a first, over 7,50,000 Omani voters to choose Shura members through electronic voting
Over 7,50,000 electorates in the Sultanate of Oman on October 29 cast their franchise. In a first, the voting was done electronically to elect members of Majlis A’Shura for its tenth term. Leaving the old ballot box voting process, newly complete electronic initiative was adopted by Sultanate of Oman to save the time. The voting process started at 8 am using high-end electronic technology and concluded at about 7 pm. As per data of Ministry of Interior of Oman, a total of 7,53,690 voters enrolled in the electoral register. The voters in Oman this time are using the “Intakhib” electronic app during the election with total participation of 7,53,690 registered voters. The ministry said that all related data, and information are available in full transparency, through broadcasting indicators and live coverage of election. As many as 843 candidates, among them 32 women, contesting the Shura Council’s Tenth Term Elections.
