How does Tata Steel aim to reduce dependency on imports? Sushanta Kumar Mishra explains

Tata Steel Limited Ferro Alloys & Minerals Division Executive In-charge Sushanta Kumar Mishra says, “This is actually a dream for the country and obviously Tata Steel being a major player in steel. We are currently hovering about 24 million tons, and we aspire to be around 40 million tons as a part of this journey. It is not only the volume which we are aspiring to; actually, we are aspiring to be a responsible player considering sustainability, the environment peace while we are increasing the overall steel capacity. As of now, most of the inputs that come for speciality steel are imported… So what we intend to do is we intend to replace those by including the value-added products in our product basket… And these requirements can be met directly through us in the domestic market… So wherever there is an opportunity for these special steels they are looking at, and we think that we can get into that, we are actually trying to get into that space and gradually get into that product range to supply to the Indian markets.”
