Healthcare Monthly Sector Update : Acute/Chronic witness highest YoY growth in 24m By Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd
* IPM grew 16% YoY in Jun’26, compared to 12% in Jun’25 and 12% in May’26. On a 12-month (MAT) basis, IPM growth stood at 11.1% YoY.
* Growth was driven by strong outperformance in Cardiac, Anti-diabetic and VMN therapies, which exceeded overall IPM growth by ~ 450bp, 430bp and 300bp, respectively, in Jun’26.
* Acute therapies continued to witness 13% YoY growth in Jun’26, compared to 10% in May’26 and 11% in Jun’25.
* The chronic therapy segment maintained robust double-digit growth of 20% YoY, supported by an increased focus on chronic portfolios amid evolving lifestyle trends in the domestic market. * For the 12 months ending in Jun’26, IPM growth was driven by 3.4%/4.6%/3.1% YoY growth in volumes/prices/new launches.
* Mounjaro remained the top-selling drug in Jun’26 with sales of INR1.4b, followed by Foracort at INR0.8b, according to IQVIA.
* Mixtard continued to decline, reporting a 31% YoY drop in Jun’26, as per IQVIA data.
Intas/Torrent/Zydus outperform in Jun’26
* Among the top 20 pharma companies, Intas (+20.8%YoY), Torrent (+19.9%YoY) and Zydus (+19.8%) outperformed the overall IPM in Jun’26.
* Emcure (+6.8%YoY), Sanofi (+11%YoY) and Alembic (+13.1%YoY) were the key underperformers during the month.
* Torrent outperformed IPM, driven by superior growth across Cardiac/ VMN.
* Zydus outperformed IPM, driven by momentum in Cardiac/Respiratory/ Antineoplast.
* Corono Remedies reported industry-leading price growth of 8.2% YoY on MAT basis. Intas reported the highest volume growth of 9.6% YoY on MAT basis. Ajanta Pharma posted the highest growth in new launches of 5.4% YoY on MAT basis.
Cardiac/Anti-Diabetic/Respiratory lead YoY growth on MAT basis
* On MAT basis, the industry reported 11.1% growth YoY.
* On MAT basis, chronic therapies posted 15.2% YoY growth, while acute therapies recorded 8.5% YoY growth in Jun’26.
* The acute segment’s share in overall IPM stood at 59.3% for MAT Jun’26.
* Cardiac/Anti-Diabetic/VMN grew by 20.5%/20.3%/19.0%YoY. AI/Gastro/Derma underperformed IPM by ~590bp/350bp/300bp on YoY basis for 12 months ending in Jun’26
