HDFC Large Cap Fund (“the Fund”), an open-ended equity scheme predominantly investing in large cap stocks, completed 30 years in October 2026. Since its launch in 1996, the Fund has delivered a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17.62%. A lump-sum investment of Rs.1,00,000 at inception would have grown about 130 times, to roughly Rs.1.30 crore, as of September 30, 2026. A monthly SIP of Rs.10,000, invested on the first business day of every month since inception would have grown to about Rs.8.46 crore over the same period.
Formerly known as HDFC Top 100 Fund, HDFC Large Cap Fund is one of the flagship equity schemes of HDFC Mutual Fund. Over three decades it has seen almost every kind of market: the Asian financial crisis, the dot-com bust, the 2008 global financial crisis, the 2020 pandemic sell off and several long bull runs in between. Through all of them it has stayed with one simple idea: owning India’s leading businesses for the long term. That consistency has made it a dependable core holding for generations of investors who want to take part in India’s growth through its largest and most established companies
The Fund aims for long-term capital appreciation and income by investing mainly in large cap companies, the market leaders that tend to anchor India’s economy. As of September 30, 2026, the portfolio was spread across sectors including banking, telecommunications, consumer durables, petroleum products and pharmaceuticals, reflecting the breadth of India’s corporate landscape.
Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Navneet Munot, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, HDFC AMC, said, “Thirty years is a long time in markets, and HDFC Large Cap Fund has been through several market cycles in that time. This milestone belongs to our investors and partners and we are grateful for the trust they have placed in us across generations. Large caps are currently at decent valuations. Investors with a long horizon can consider large cap funds for potential wealth creation.”
The Fund Manager Mr. Rahul Baijal, said: “Big thanks to all our investors and partners who have been part of this 30-year journey of HDFC Large Cap Fund. It's been a privilege to be associated with the fund. Large caps are generally well-established companies with a long track record. At present many of them are trading at relatively reasonable valuations, presenting opportunity for long-term investors “
