Daily Market Update – 19th August 2026 by Ventura Securities Ltd
Market Outlook: Indian markets are likely to open marginally positive, with Gift Nifty up 0.05%, despite weak overnight global cues as the S&P 500 fell 0.69%, Dow Jones declined 0.22% and Nasdaq 100 dropped 1.68%. Domestic sentiment remains cautious after the Nifty 50 declined 0.6% in the previous session, while market breadth remained weak with NSE advance-decline at 1,544:1,914 and BSE at 1,890:2,426. Options positioning indicates resistance around 24,200 on Nifty, while 24,150 remains the key Put OI level.
FII & DII Activity: Institutional flows remained supportive, with FIIs/FPI recording net buying of ?1,652 crore, while DIIs were stronger net buyers at ?2,579 crore. The simultaneous buying by foreign and domestic institutions provides some support despite weak broader market breadth.
Sector Activity: Sectoral performance remained mixed. Nifty Auto (+0.3%), Healthcare (+0.2%), Oil & Gas (+0.2%) and Pharma (+0.1%) outperformed, while IT was the key drag, declining 1.9%. PSU Banks (-1.0%), FMCG (-0.8%), Services (-0.7%) and Metals (-0.6%) also remained under pressure.
F&O Activity: Long build-up was visible in Bosch, Sona BLW, APL Apollo and Tube Investments, while short build-up was seen in KFin Technologies, Voltas, Colgate-Palmolive and Inox Wind. Long unwinding was observed in Patanjali Foods, Pidilite, Havells and Eicher Motors, whereas short covering emerged in Grasim, Max Financial Services, Petronet LNG and Dalmia Bharat.
