Daily Market Update - 06th October 2026 - Ventura Securities Ltd

Market Outlook: Indian markets are expected to open on a positive note, with Gift Nifty at 22,648, up 0.32%, supported by gains in US markets where the S&P 500, Dow Jones and Nasdaq 100 rose 0.67%, 0.18% and 0.87%, respectively. Nifty 50 closed at 22,555.75 on 5th October, up 0.60%, snapping a four-day losing streak. However, the broader trend remains cautious as the index remains significantly below its YTD levels and India VIX rose 1.75% to 14.71. On the derivatives front, 22,500 remains the key support with the highest Put OI, while 23,000 has the highest Call OI. The immediate trading range is therefore likely to remain between 22,500 and 23,000.

FII & DII Activity: FIIs remained net sellers on 5th October, selling Rs 4,699 crore, taking October outflows to Rs 14,183 crore in just two sessions. In contrast, DIIs bought Rs 5,182 crore, taking their cumulative October purchases to Rs 15,223 crore and more than offsetting FII selling. While strong DII buying continues to provide support to the market, persistent foreign outflows remain a key overhang and could limit the sustainability of any near-term recovery.

Sector Activity: Sectoral performance was mixed, with FMCG leading gains at 1.80%, followed by Consumer Durables at 1.53%, PSU Banks at 0.97%, PSE at 0.81%, Consumer at 0.74% and Energy at 0.57%. Metal and Oil & Gas also gained 0.30% and 0.34%, respectively, while Financial Services rose 0.41%. On the weaker side, Healthcare declined 1.00% and Pharma fell 0.74%, while IT remained broadly flat at -0.01%. Private Banks gained 0.08%. Market breadth remained relatively balanced but marginally negative, with 1,745 advances against 1,844 declines on NSE.

Long, Short, Long Unwinding & Short Covering: Long build-up was led by ITC (+4.8% OI), KFin Technologies (+2.8%), Eternal (+2.0%) and Angel One (+0.5%). On the short side, Policybazaar saw the strongest build-up at 5.6%, followed by Divi’s Laboratories at 1.3%, Indigo at 0.7% and Trent at 0.5%. Long unwinding was seen in Dixon Technologies (-0.8%), Oberoi Realty (-0.7%), NMDC (-0.4%), Sona BLW (-0.3%) and ABB (-0.1%). Short covering was strongest in Kalyan Jewellers (-7.6%), followed by AU Bank (-0.7%), Blue Star (-0.6%), Nykaa (-0.5%) and BSE (-0.5%), indicating easing of bearish positions in these counters.
