The budget can propose incentives to encourage the speedier construction of houses Says Dr. Rajan Samuel, Habitat for Humanity India
Below is quote on Budget 2023 expectation by Housing Sector from Dr. Rajan Samuel, Managing Director, Habitat for Humanity India
"The government has been steadily focusing on addressing the housing demand of economically weaker sections through housing schemes like PMAY and MNREGA. Access to decent housing not only ensures the dignity of a family but also builds resilience and security for the family members. Therefore, the Union Budget 2023 must maintain momentum and broaden the scope of these schemes' beneficiaries. The government may create a framework for implementing Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT), which will foster effective engagement with homeowners during the construction process, ensuring the efficient implementation of various affordable housing schemes. Moreover, the budget needs to encourage banks to further strengthen their focus on green financing which will build a framework for a socially inclusive growth. This would immensely support initiatives aimed at constructing homes that are more energy efficient for both rural and marginalised groups as well as urban residents. In addition, the budget can propose incentives to encourage the speedier construction of houses. "
