Adani group starts exports from Australia coalmine that drew protests Billionaire Gautam
Adani’s coal mine in Australia, a project that’s become a global emblem for opposition to fossil fuels, is preparing to begin exports after more than a decade of bitter dispute over its development. Proposed in 2010 and stalled by legal challenges, financing setbacks and a sustained campaign from climate activists, the operation is scheduled to ship first cargoes before the end of December and aims to supply an initial 10 million tons of thermal coal annually for at least 30 years.
Meta's India revenue up 16% to Rs 1,485 crore in FY21; net profit dips
Meta's (formerly Facebook) total income in India grew 16 per cent year-onyear to about Rs 1,485 crore in 2020-21, while its net profit dipped 6 per cent to Rs 128 crore, as per regulatory documents. Its gross ad revenue saw a 41 per cent jump to Rs 9,326 crore for the fiscal ended March 2021, as per a filing with the Registrar of Companies, showed. Meta's total income in India stood at about Rs 1,277 crore, while its net profit was at Rs 136 crore in FY20.
Flipkart merges depts to create singular growth org under Prakash Sikaria
E-commerce firm Flipkart is merging its ‘Customer & Marketing Org’ with ‘Growth & Monetisation Org’ to create a singular Flipkart Growth charter under senior company executive Prakash Sikaria, said CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy in a letter addressed to the employees. Sikaria, who is Senior Vice President - Growth and Monetization, Flipkart, has been with the firm since 2015, and during his time with the company, he has created a significant impact by pioneering and launching impactful initiatives such as Ads, Plus, Supercoins, Games, Video, Travel and social commerce platform Shopsy. In addition to this responsibility, travel platform ClearTrip which was acquired by Flipkart will continue to report to Sikaria.
Meta launches new safety initiatives aiming at online protection of women
Meta, the rebranded parent company of Facebook and its apps, on Thursday, announced several initiatives aimed towards online safety of women, including a project to prevent the spread of non-consensual intimate images. StopNCII.org is an initiative by Meta to prevent the spread of nonconsensual intimate images (NCII), often called “revenge porn”. In partnership with UK Revenge Porn Helpline, StopNCII.org builds on Meta’s NCII Pilot, an emergency programme that allows potential victims to proactively hash their intimate images so they can’t be proliferated on its platforms.
Supreme Court upholds arbitral award in favour of Anil Ambani firm
The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea filed by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) seeking review of its judgement which upheld the 2017 arbitration award of around Rs 4,600 crore in favour of Reliance Infrastructure subsidiary, Delhi Airport Metro Express Pvt Ltd (DAMEPL), enforceable against it.
