Goa PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral on Wednesday said that as there is constant rise in demand for power supply, the state will require the Tamnar project power line to meet future requirements.

Cabral, speaking at 'Ujjwal Bharat' programme in Sanguem, South Goa, appealed to the people to adopt sources of renewable energy to meet their power requirements.

"As there is constant rise in demand for power supply, the state will require the Tamnar project power line to meet our future requirement," he said.

Cabral said that demand for power supply is increasing on a larger scale and it is high time for people to start usage of equipment and gadgets operated on solar energy.

"The practices will definitely benefit in reducing environmental pollution and also save money for every household," he said.

Earlier, on May 17, Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar had said that people had opposed the Tamnar Project as the environment was getting affected due to the felling of trees.

"But now, as the Supreme Court has suggested to realign the transmission line with the existing line, there will be no loss of trees. This project is very important to us as it will give us additional 1,200 MW power," Dhavalikar had earlier said.
