`Self Sufficient` Union Min Piyush Goyal`s big statement amid India-US trade negotiations

Speaking on India-US trade negotiations, Union Minister Piyush Goyal on July 19 said that India has a huge domestic demand. He also said that they should promote Make in India because only then will we be able to ensure faster growth and ensure that local can go global. “I have already mentioned that we don't negotiate through media. We negotiate in the negotiating room...Talks are ongoing and once the team is back, we will get feedback of the response and the progress...,” said Piyush Goyal. “Each one makes his own assessment. On what I believe is the way to grow, each company will have to take its own decision. I am not forcing them to go one way or the other. But I think India has a huge domestic demand. We have imports coming into the country which can be replaced by developing domestic industry to scale for high-quality production. And ultimately, COVID taught us a big lesson...that countries which do not take care of their supply chains and ensure that are resilient will suffer. PM Narendra Modi has continuously suggested, guided and appealed to industry that Aatmanirbharta should be our ethos. We should promote Make in India, we should be vocal for local, because only then will we be able to ensure faster growth and ensure that local can go global,” he added.
