Summary: Initially, the concept of compact sedan cars was launched by Tata Motors with the release of its Indigo eCs. However, soon competitors like Maruti Suzuki and Honda also launched similar sub-compact sedans which gained substantial popularity in the market. Let us take a look at features and differences of such cars like Suzuki Dzire and Honda Amaze to pick which is better.

Engine and Transmission

Maruti Suzuki Dzire cars are available in quite a few variants ranging from LXi to ZXi variants. Both models are available in manual and automatic transmission types. Also, both its manual and automatic transmission models running on petrol engines have a mileage of 22 km per litre. Engines running on diesel have been discontinued for Dzire cars by Maruti Suzuki.

Honda Amaze sedans are also designed to run on petrol and diesel engines. Manual cars operating on petrol has a mileage of 19.5 Kmpl, whereas, automatic cars on petrol gives a mileage of 19 Kmpl. Diesel Engines for manual cars has a mileage of 27.4 Kmpl and for the automatic models, it is 23.8 Kmpl. Moreover, when the engine of the manual variant is operated on petrol and CNG, it generates a mileage of 18 Kmpl.

Price and Specifications

Suzuki Dzire cars come with in-built features like k-Series BS6 compliant 1.2-litre, four-cylinder engine. Motor for Dzire cars is known to generate a horsepower of 82 bhp along with 113 Nm of peak torque. The ex-showroom price for Maruti Suzuki has been enlisted from Rs. 5.89 lakh to Rs. 8,8 lakhs.

When compared to Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze gives a more promising drive experience. Its 1199/1498 cc engine could generate a maximum power of 79/89/99 bhp with a maximum torque of 110/160/200 Nm. The ex-showroom price for Honda Amaze starts at Rs. 6.17 Lakh and could go up to Rs. 11.5 Lakh.

Overall Appearance

Previously, Suzuki Dzire cars looked like hatchback cars with a boot but its new and updated models and variants are stylish and well-proportioned. Also, the manufacturers have worked on upgrading its features too. Its sculpted profile with a boot and a bumper has features like LED headlamps and taillamps. For the interiors, there are features like 7-inch Smartplay Studio, 2.0 infotainment system, in-car navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth and more.

Honda Amaze, on the other hand, comes with tweaks like a thick chrome grille, new fog lamp enclosure, tail lamps and bumper. Its cabin is redesigned with a new dashboard, AC vents, dials, buttons on the revamped centre console. Automatic climate control, audio controls, Android Carplay, Android Auto, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system are some of its other additions in its cabin.

Pros and Cons

Even though Suzuki Dzire cars revamped with features like better AMT/AGS Transmission and a well-groomed spacious cabin, yet it lacks some qualities. Manufacturers could work better on improvising the safety gears and make the petrol engine more efficient. Moreover, the diesel car variants have been continued in the market.

Honda Amaze has some drawbacks as well. Even though its spacious cabin gives a premium and rich appeal, yet its design on its exterior is a bit odd. Its redesigned engines are up to the mark but sometimes its diesel automatic variants appear to be underpowered. Y CVT gearbox continues to have the rubber band effect.

Verdict

Both Honda Amaze and Suzuki Dzire are well-to-go sedans for rough and tough use. However, on an overall basis, if you consider the power, looks and features, Honda Amaze is a better option to go with. Suzuki Dzire also comes with similar features and looks but a little subsidised power. Also, the price for the two sedans is quite different as Honda cars are slightly pricy than Maruti Suzuki cars. Therefore, it depends upon you on whether you want to go a bit economical on your purchase or settle for the best-engineered sub-compact sedan.
