Wular Lake gets CCTV surveillance to curb bird poaching in Bandipora
In a first, Wular Conservation Management Authority (WUCUMA) has installed CCTV cameras along the lake banks in Bandipora. It aimed to curb poaching and protect the migratory birds. The migratory birds arrive at the lake during the winter months. The birds’ migration patterns depend on seasonal changes and the availability of food. During the non-breeding season, the gulls travel to warmer regions in search of sustenance and favorable weather. Locals welcomed the move, expressing hope that it will help to put an end to poaching activities in the area.
