Western Railway's scrap sales cross Rs 300 crore; exceed target by 28 pc

Western Railway has recorded scrap sales of around Rs 320 crore in the financial year 2026-27 so far, exceeding its proportionate target by more than 28 per cent, according to an official statement issued on Monday.

The railway zone crossed the Rs 300-crore mark in mid-October under its ‘Mission Zero Scrap’ initiative, which aims to clear scrap from its establishments and units while generating revenue through the disposal of unused and obsolete materials.

"As of October 16, Western Railway had recorded scrap sales of approximately Rs 320 crore against a proportionate target of Rs 248.97 crore. Its overall scrap sales target for the financial year 2026-27 stands at more than Rs 500 crore," the statement said.

The railway zone has also exceeded its monthly target of Rs 55 crore for October during a special drive conducted this month.

The initiative covers the identification and disposal of various categories of scrap, including released railway tracks, permanent way materials, condemned locomotives, coaches, wagons, electronic waste and other miscellaneous materials.

The disposal of such materials is intended to improve material management and operational efficiency, while supporting efforts to maintain cleaner railway premises.

The initiative also allows the railways to recover value from materials that are no longer required for operations.
