West Bengal`s Birbhum district undergoes SIR process, locals give mixed response
Bogtui village in West Bengal’s Birbhum constituency, which saw deadly violence in 2022, is back in focus ahead of the Assembly elections due to the SIR process. While many residents support the drive to identify illegal settlers, villagers allege that over 50 valid names have been removed from the list. Several residents, including victims of the 2022 violence, claim their names or those of family members are missing despite having proper documents and voting history, raising serious concerns as the issue becomes a key political flashpoint.
