Rupee weakens marginally against US dollar in early trade on Tuesday
The Indian rupee weakened marginally against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday, driven by strong importer demand for dollars in the market. Although, foreign fund inflows and RBI's continued intervention through state-run banks have limited further weakness in the rupee. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) purchased equities worth Rs 1,181.66 crore on a net basis on Monday, exchange data showed. Meanwhile, separate data showed that the Reserve Bank of India's special USD-INR forex swap facility for FCNR(B) deposits, Overseas Foreign Currency Borrowings (OFCB) and External Commercial Borrowings (ECB) has mobilised foreign exchange inflows of $73 billion as of August 21, 2026.
The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 95.71, weaker by 1 paisa from its previous close of 95.70 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 95.7475 and 95.6950 respectively.
