Rupee weakens marginally against US dollar in early trade on Thursday
The Indian rupee weakened marginally against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday after a batch of US economic data, including a reading on inflation, slightly lifted expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike ahead of the Jackson Hole central bankers' symposium due to begin later today. However, easing Brent crude prices, foreign fund inflows and sustained Reserve Bank of India intervention supported the rupee and limited further losses. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 502.63 crore on a net basis on Wednesday, exchange data showed. The Indian foreign exchange market was closed on Wednesday on account of Id-e-Milad.
The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 95.45, weaker by 1 paisa from its previous close of 95.44 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 95.52 and 95.40 respectively.
