Rupee weakens against US dollar on Wednesday
The Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Wednesday, weighed down by firm American currency overseas and foreign fund outflows. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 803 crore on Tuesday, exchange data showed. However, lower crude oil prices, renewed optimism over the India-US trade deal, MSCI inflows and US government reopening hopes have supported the domestic unit and limited further falls to some extent.
The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 88.57, weaker by 7 paise from its previous close of 88.50 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 88.6650 and 88.56 respectively.
