Rupee weakens against US dollar on Tuesday

The Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Tuesday tracking weak domestic equities and sustained foreign fund outflows from Indian capital markets followed by uncertainty over a delayed interim trade deal with the United States. Foreign institutional investors offloaded equities worth Rs 6,082.47 crore on a net basis on Monday, exchange data showed. Moreover, month-end dollar demand also weighed on rupee sentiments. Meanwhile, investors remained cautious ahead of the US interest rate decision later in the week.
The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 86.87, weaker by 17 paise from its previous close of 86.70 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 86.92 and 86.76 respectively.
