Rupee strengthens against US dollar on Wednesday
The Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Wednesday ahead of major central bank meetings this week, including the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision later today. Besides, positive domestic equities, fresh foreign fund inflows and RBI’s intervention have also supported the domestic unit. Foreign Institutional Investors bought equities worth Rs 10,339.80 crore on Tuesday, exchange data showed. However, firm American currency overseas and month-end dollar demand from importers have kept the rupee under pressure.
The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 88.22, stronger by 7 paise from its previous close of 88.29 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 88.35 and 88.15 respectively.
