Rupee strengthens against US dollar on Wednesday
Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Wednesday, despite foreign fund outflows from the capital markets and surging crude oil prices. Foreign Institutional Investors were net sellers in the capital market as they offloaded shares worth Rs 693.47 crore on Tuesday, exchange data showed. On the global front, US dollar held firm against major currencies overseas as US Treasury yields surge to multiyear highs following hawkish commentaries from some US Federal Reserve officials.
The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 83.20, stronger by 8 paise from its previous close of 83.28 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 83.2475 and 83.1875 respectively.
